DGF “Slice” cuts application testing time — Data Generation Facility (DGF) from SoftBase Systems provides an easy and inexpensive way to create test data for DB2 applications.

DGF’s new patent-pending “Slice” technology dramatically reduces the time it takes to create DB2 test data, bringing applications on line sooner with less staff involvement.

Traditional testing methods are overly complicated and time-consuming, causing delays and difficulties in application development. Slice simplifies application testing by allowing programmers to manage their own piece of DB2 test data. Slice eliminates the need to copy an entire database to test systems or write complicated and error–prone SQL scripts. It also improves testing efficiency and accuracy by giving each user his own view of the data that’s completely isolated from the activities of other testers. This allows multiple developers to concurrently test against the same database without data corruption. DGF’s Slice feature allows developers to:

  • migrate and move RI data between source and target quickly and easily without relying on complicated SQL code
  • share test files easily – without fear of data corruption
  • accelerate development schedules and reduce DASD requirements
  • reduce DBA time spent managing test environments
  • conduct concurrent testing and development in one set of tables without contention
  • create summaries or detail comparisons of test results
  • easily prepare data for testing
  • provide true parallel and isolated development testing without maintaining multiple data sets
  • concurrently load, test, and unload data

Other DGF features enable developers to:

  • mask and transform sensitive data such as salaries and account numbers
  • compare “before” and “after” data changes to facilitate regression testing
  • edit data in a familiar ISPF environment
  • easily create realistic and relevant data
  • extract data without writing complex SQL
  • create new datasets by easily integrating DB2 data with legacy sources such as VSAM and QSAM

See for yourself how easy test data generation can be.

Data Generation Facility is a powerful and money-saving tool for CIOs, CTOs, database administrators, application developers, Q&A testers, DASD space managers, and privacy auditors.

DGF executes under OS/390 and z/OS with DB2 and TSO/ISPF in on-line or batch mode. For more information or a DGF demonstration, call Softbase Systems at (800) 669-7076.

FreezeFrame — Abstract — New Internet technologies and the increasing number of Web-based transactions have created an unprecedented workload for legacy applications on the mainframe. IT managers can no longer tolerate application inefficiencies. That’s why Macro4 is introducing FreezeFrame, the first application performance measurement program for z/OS and OS/390 that is inexpensive, comprehensive, and easy to understand.

The problem — Slow or improperly running programs have always caused backlogged tasks, timeouts, and revenue losses. However, the increasing reliance of corporations on Web services and complex Internet technologies (e.g., Websphere, Java) has made a bad situation worse.

Reports of the mainframe’s death are greatly exaggerated. An estimated 70 percent of all enterprise data is still held on the mainframe. However, these new Internet technologies are placing greater stress on back-end and legacy applications used on the mainframe.

Before the advent of the Web, IT managers knew how many client transactions they would have to process every month. Today, CIOs are uneasy about embracing Web services that place no limits on the number of customer transactions they must process. Mainframes must now perform many more tasks in the same amount of time. The margin for application error is getting smaller and smaller.

As software becomes more complex, application failures are becoming more common. In 2002, only 34 percent of software projects succeeded, and one in six projects failed entirely. Worse still, the pricetag for fixing product flaws rises dramatically if bugs aren’t detected early in the application development process.

When applications don’t perform properly, the resulting data backlogs and bottlenecks impede all online transactions and cause the company to lose revenue. For example, the insurance industry now allows customers to design their own policies over the Internet. If the Internet transaction locks up or takes too long, the company loses a sale. Businesses also can’t backup their databases during the daily
batch window. (complete sample available on request)top]

Safa Water — Not just another bottled water

Did you know that popular brands of bottled drinking water often contain harmful chemicals, bacteria, and viruses?

That’s because these bottled waters are developed primarily for their marketing appeal, not their health benefits.

But now there’s Safa Water, the product of 35 years of research by biochemist Eugen Safta.  The Safa Water purification system eliminates virtually all harmful substances and retains the minerals you need for a strong, healthy body. No other bottled water in the world matches Safa Water’s purity, health benefits, and taste.

New purification technology  — Other bottling companies remove only some harmful chemicals and bacteria (and no viruses) from their water.  Dr. Safta’s water purification system removes nearly all toxic organic and inorganic chemicals and disease carrying bacteria and viruses. This 17-step patented system is superior to popular commercial brands that use only two or three purification steps. The Safa Water purification system requires no chemicals and has been inspected and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

More energy — Safa Water energizes the body.  Water’s ability to supply the body with energy is lost when it’s contaminated.  Dr. Safta’s water purification system restores water’s ability to energize the body by creating a perfect environment for cell regeneration.  Preliminary testing of Safa Water in the United States and Europe shows that it may also help strengthen the immune system and combat certain diseases.

Because Safa Water is purer than other bottled waters, it eliminates bodily wastes and harmful substances more efficiently than popular brands. This efficient elimination of body waste and harmful chemicals, bacteria, and viruses can reduce the likelihood of certain diseases, reduce cell damage, and improve overall health.

Great taste — In 1997, the American Tasting Institute recognized Safa Water’s superior taste.  This world renowned culinary institute granted Safa Water two gold medals as part of its “American Taste Award of Excellence.”

Ground floor investment opportunity — Consumption of bottled water has risen dramatically during the past decade.  Market research shows that consumers want what Safa Water offers — consistent purity and great taste.  Dr. Safta is currently seeking investors and partners for the expanded production and distribution of Safa Water.  Contact Safa Water’s headquarters to learn about the investment opportunities offered by this exciting new technology.

The Inventor — Eugen Safta is a doctor of biochemistry with 40 years experience in scientific research, 25 of them spent studying the human immune system. His invention of the Safa Water purification system led to his inclusion in the 1996-1997 edition of Who’s Who of American Inventors.  Dr. Safta is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.[top]
